How Does an AOV System Work?
An Automatic Opening Vent system works by detecting smoke and automatically opening designated windows, rooflights, louvres, dampers or smoke vents. This creates a controlled route through which smoke and heat can leave the building.
The system usually combines smoke detectors, an AOV control panel, electric actuators, automatic vents, manual controls and a secondary power supply. Each component must operate correctly for the complete smoke control strategy to work as intended.
An AOV system responds by opening the correct smoke ventilation point. Depending on the design, the system may release smoke directly outside or move it into a purpose-built smoke shaft.
