PAT Testing That Gives You a Clear Record of Appliance Safety

Portable electrical equipment can deteriorate through everyday use, movement, damage and environmental conditions. Our engineers carry out a visual inspection and, where appropriate, electrical tests to identify defects before equipment continues in service.

You receive a clear record of the items inspected, test results and any equipment requiring attention.

  • Visual inspection of plugs, flexes, casings and general condition
  • Electrical safety testing appropriate to the equipment
  • PASS / FAIL labelling and appliance identification
  • Asset register and results report
  • Clear advice on failed or damaged equipment
  • Single-site and multi-site testing programmes

What Our Portable Appliance Testing Service Includes

From the first visual check through to the final report, our service is designed to give you a practical and easy-to-manage record of appliance safety.

Visual Inspection

We check plugs, flexible cables, casings, strain relief, signs of overheating, damage and other visible defects.

Electrical Testing

Where appropriate, we use suitable test equipment to carry out electrical safety checks based on the appliance type.

Appliance Labelling

Each tested item can be clearly labelled so staff can identify its recorded status and asset reference.

Asset Register

You receive an organised record of the appliances inspected, including identification and test results.

Failed Item Reporting

Unsafe or damaged equipment is clearly identified so it can be removed from service, repaired or replaced.

Planned Retesting

We can support ongoing programmes across one or multiple locations and help you plan suitable future inspections.

PAT Testing & UK Electrical Safety Responsibilities

UK law does not require every portable appliance to be PAT tested every year. However, dutyholders must make sure electrical equipment is maintained so that it does not present danger.

The appropriate inspection and testing regime depends on factors such as the equipment, how often it is used, the environment and the likelihood of damage. PAT testing can form part of a risk-based maintenance programme and provides useful documented evidence of checks carried out.

A Risk-Based Approach

  • Equipment type and construction
  • How frequently the item is used
  • Whether it is regularly moved
  • The environment in which it operates
  • Previous faults or damage
  • Manufacturer guidance and workplace risk assessment

Portable Appliance Testing FAQs

There is no single UK law stating that every portable appliance must be PAT tested at a fixed interval. Employers and other dutyholders do, however, have legal responsibilities to maintain electrical equipment so it does not give rise to danger. Inspection and testing can form part of that maintenance system.
There is no universal annual interval for every appliance. The frequency should be based on risk, taking account of the equipment type, how it is used, how often it is moved, the environment and previous inspection results.
We clearly identify failed equipment and record the result. The item should not continue to be used until the defect has been dealt with appropriately, which may mean repair, replacement or further assessment.
