Take Control of Who Can Access Your Building

Modern access control replaces or supplements traditional keys with controlled credentials such as cards, fobs, PIN codes or authorised entry through an intercom.

Systems can be designed for a single entrance or multiple doors across larger premises, helping you control access to restricted areas and manage permissions more effectively.

  • Key fob and proximity card systems
  • Keypad and PIN access
  • Audio and video intercoms
  • Electric locks, strikes and magnetic locking
  • Single-door and multi-door control
  • Staff and visitor access management
  • Upgrade and replacement of older systems

Access Control Solutions We Provide

We can design a system around the way your premises actually operates, from a simple controlled entrance to a multi-door network.

Key Fob & Card Access

Issue individual credentials to staff and remove access when somebody leaves without changing the building’s locks.

Keypad & PIN Entry

A practical option for controlled areas where authorised users need quick access without carrying a physical credential.

Audio & Video Intercoms

Allow staff to identify visitors at an entrance and release the door from a reception, office or other authorised point.

Multi-Door Systems

Manage several controlled doors from one access-control platform with permissions tailored to users and areas.

Restricted Area Access

Limit entry to offices, plant rooms, stores, staff-only areas or other parts of the premises that require tighter control.

System Upgrades

Replace outdated controllers, readers, locking equipment or entry devices and improve an existing system without unnecessary replacement.

Access Control Designed Around Your Premises

The right system depends on the number of doors, the building layout, how many people use the premises and the level of control required. We look at how staff, visitors and contractors move through the building before recommending the equipment and access structure.

Where access-controlled doors form part of an escape route or interact with other life-safety systems, the design needs to ensure security arrangements do not compromise safe escape.

What We Consider

  • Number and type of controlled doors
  • Staff, visitor and contractor access
  • Required access groups and permissions
  • Door locking and release arrangements
  • Reception and intercom requirements
  • Power supplies and backup arrangements
  • Interfaces with fire and security systems where required

How Our Access Control Installation Works

1. Site Survey

We review the entrances, internal doors, locking arrangements, user requirements and any existing access-control equipment.

2. System Design

We plan the readers, controllers, locking hardware, power supplies and user permissions around the building and how it is used.

3. Professional Installation

Our engineers install, configure and test the access-control equipment with disruption kept as low as practicable.

4. Handover & Support

We demonstrate the system, explain day-to-day management and can provide maintenance and technical support afterwards.

Benefits of a Modern Door Access System

Better Control

Set who can access particular doors or areas instead of issuing the same level of access to everyone.

Fewer Physical Keys

Reduce the cost and disruption of replacing keys and locks when keys are lost or staff leave.

Simple Credential Management

Cards and fobs can be added, changed or removed without altering the door lock itself.

Visitor Management

Intercom and controlled release options help reception teams manage visitors and deliveries more effectively.

Scalable Systems

Start with a small installation and expand to additional doors or areas as your organisation grows.

Improved Site Security

Control access to sensitive areas and reduce uncontrolled movement through staff-only or restricted parts of the building.

Door Access Maintenance & Support

Access control is used every day, so readers, locks, door releases, closers, controllers and power supplies all need to continue operating reliably.

AK Fire Safety can inspect and maintain existing access-control systems, investigate faults, replace worn components and support changes when staff access requirements or building use changes.

Door Access & Access Control FAQs

Can you install access control on an existing door?

Often, yes. The existing door, frame and locking arrangement need to be assessed first so the correct locking and release hardware can be selected.

What happens if somebody loses a fob or access card?

On a managed access-control system, the lost credential can normally be removed from the system and a replacement issued without changing the physical lock.

Can different staff have different access permissions?

Yes. Suitable systems can be configured so different users or groups only have access to the doors or areas they are authorised to enter.

Can access control work with an intercom?

Yes. Audio or video intercoms can be combined with controlled door release so authorised staff can communicate with visitors before granting entry.

Can you maintain an access-control system installed by another company?

In many cases, yes. We can assess the existing equipment, identify the system and advise what servicing, repair or upgrade options are practical.

Does access control need to release in a fire?

Requirements depend on the door, escape strategy, locking method and overall system design. Access control must not prevent safe escape, so doors on escape routes need to be designed and interfaced appropriately for the premises.
